iNEMI is a virtual organization. It does not have its own building or lab facilities. The consortium's directions, strategies and projects are all member-driven. Project work is completed by the employees of member organizations, onsite at member facilities.
A staff of seven people make up the iNEMI Executive Secretariat, which provides administrative support to the Board of Directors as well as to iNEMI committees and projects. This group is also the primary communication vehicle within the consortium and with industry. Headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, and located in the Virginia Center for Innovative Technology, the Secretariat receives funding of approximately $1 million annually, which comes from membership participation fees. These funds cover the costs of running the administrative function (staff salaries, meetings, communications, etc.).
Several groups within iNEMI are responsible for the organization's various activities, as defined below. Click on the name of the group to see a list of individuals who make up each group.
Council of Members — Each Participating Member has a representative on the iNEMI Council of Members. This group elects the Board of Directors, receives information about project and program proposals and status, and provides representatives to the various technology groups.
Board of Directors — This group makes all decisions regarding the policy, strategy and direction of the consortium. It also has operational authority (including responsibility for the staff) and reviews the performance of all projects and programs. Currently, the Board is made up of 10 voting directors who are executives from a cross-section of member companies (OEMs, EMS providers and suppliers). Ex-officio members include the iNEMI CEO and chairs of iNEMI standing committees (such as the Technical Committee). Directors are elected by the Council of Members and typically serve three-year terms. The Chairman is elected from within the Board.

Technical Committee — The Technical Committee develops and integrates iNEMI's technology strategies and plans plus facilitates and coordinates all iNEMI technical activities. Working with the TIGs (see below), the Technical Committee develops iNEMI's Technical Plan, which outlines the needs and drivers of each implementation project and conveys the strategy, structure and status of each. This group is comprised of 13 representatives from Participating and Affiliate members plus the iNEMI Vice President of Operations. Research Committee — The Research Committee is a subcommittee of the Technical Committee. Its role is to stimulate research that will address gaps identified by iNEMI roadmaps and, for those efforts requiring fundamental R&D, work with government agencies, universities, and other consortia to ensure that the work is properly funded and undertaken. This group is responsible for organizing and publishing the iNEMI research priorities, presenting those priorities to research institutes and funding organizations, identifying funding opportunities, monitoring industry progress toward roadmap goals, and monitoring progress in nanotechnology research. China Steering Committee — Most iNEMI members have significant operations in China. The China Steering Committee was organized in 2005 to create opportunities for our members to network, share best practices, participate in the roadmap and help establish the direction of, and participate in, iNEMI's collaborative efforts. Technology Working Groups (TWGs) — These groups are responsible for developing the individual roadmap sections comprising iNEMI's overall industry roadmap. Although the TWGs are usually chaired by iNEMI members, participation is open to any organization in the electronics industry. Contact information
Product Emulator Groups (PEGs) — The PEGs define the future technology needs of "product emulators" from five sectors: automotive, aerospace/defense, consumer/portable, medical and office/large business/communication systems. These product emulators provide an abstract representation of a product that will allow companies to share needs without sharing proprietary product information. The product needs defined by each PEG are used by the TWGs (see above) to forecast trends for the numerous technology and infrastructure areas covered by the roadmap. Contact information
Technology Integration Groups (TIGs) — The TIGs identify technology needs and facilitate formation of projects. Along with the Technical Committee, they are responsible for iNEMI's Technical Plan. There are currently eight TIGs, under which all deployment and standards projects are organized: Board Assembly, Environmentally Conscious Electronics, Heat Transfer, Medical, Optoelectronics, Product Lifecycle Information Management (PLIM). Project Leaders —The project teams implement iNEMI projects and, typically, are led by a chair and co-chair. Participating and Affiliate members can participate in as many projects as they like. Number of participants for any given project is not limited. Contact information
