Abstract
Framework has set out to fix consumer electronics, one category at a time. The conventional wisdom in the consumer electronics industry is that building products that are repairable makes for a bad business model or compromised products. This stance results in 50 million tons of e-waste created around the world each year. At Framework, we're proving that it's possible to build excellent, competitive products that are designed to last — products that give you back the power to upgrade, customize and repair them.
Our first product is the Framework laptop, which we released in July to critical acclaim. It is thin, light and high performance while still being fully repairable, customizable and upgradeable. Right to repair is at the forefront of everything Framework does. We need to improve recyclability, but the single greatest impact we can make is generating less waste by making products last longer. Our philosophy is that by making well-considered design tradeoffs and trusting customers and repair shops with the access and information they need, we can make devices that are easy to repair. Even better, what we’ve done to enable repair also opens up upgradeability and customization, which allows consumers to get exactly the product they need and extends usable lifetime too.
Framework is excited for the opportunity to fix the consumer electronics industry together by creating high-performance products that respect people and the planet.
