GfKORR, the Society of Corrosion Protection, is a federation of corrosion experts from industry and academia working in all fields of corrosion science with the aim of avoiding corrosion and its negative consequences. The Society produces the guideline for Application and Utilization of Protective Coatings for Electronic Assemblies, which will soon be available as an IEC PAS (Public Available Specification) document. As industry is aware, cracks, blisters and delamination are the most frequent failures or challenges industry faces with a conformal coating process. Significant customer process data has been collected and analyzed to identify possible causes, and the results of this analysis are summarized and will be published now. This presentation details the likely causes of these failures as well as effective preventative measures. Additionally, several tools will be introduced to ensure conformal coating quality on an ongoing basis.
