About the Webinar
Key to reducing the environmental impact of a product is the ability to measure that impact. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a well-recognized way to assess environmental impacts but is typically expensive and time consuming. This webinar will present results from the Eco-Impact Estimator project team’s work on a simplified eco-impact estimator (EiE) for life cycle assessment (LCA). The iNEMI EiE offers a means for product designers and environmental specialists to more easily assess the global warming potential (GWP) of ICT products over their full life cycle (manufacturing, transport, use and end-of-life treatment).

This project was the third phase of a continuing effort by iNEMI members to improve the existing estimator. iNEMI members worked on collecting, assessing and integrating more contemporary information and data into the estimator. The resulting modernization of the tool offers an enhanced means of measuring ICT product eco-impact that better parallels the technological advances rapidly evolving within this industry.

This phase of the project also successfully ported the estimator to a web-based tool currently hosted at Purdue University. Having this modernized tool available in database format via a hosting organization makes it more accessible to iNEMI members and academic researchers.
