iNEMI to Roll Out 2011 Roadmap with Free Webinar

Herndon, VA — March 16, 2011 — The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), an industry-led consortium, will review highlights of its latest electronics industry roadmap on March 29 with two free webinar sessions.

The 1.5-hour webinars will:

• Discuss major trends and highlights identified in the roadmap
• Review key technology drivers from three product sectors (medical, automotive and portable electronics)
• Discuss highlights from selected technology chapters (packaging and substrates, board assembly, environmentally conscious electronics, and test, inspection and measurement)

This latest iNEMI roadmap was created by nearly 600 direct participants from 18 countries and 310 organizations, and also includes input from 13 other consortia and trade associations. The 1800+-page document identifies issues and R&D needs of the electronics manufacturing industry for the next 10 years.
 
“The iNEMI Roadmap is the most comprehensive of all of the electronics industry roadmaps,” says Chuck Richardson, director of roadmapping for iNEMI.  “It looks at the entire supply chain, covering 21 technology and business practice areas, ranging from components and substrates to environmentally conscious electronics. The 2011 Roadmap is our most extensive ever and it contains a vast amount of information that can be a powerful tool for individual companies’ future planning cycles, while it also provides opportunities for government funding agencies and university-based research programs.”
 
“The roadmap is a key enabler of the value iNEMI delivers to our members and to industry,” states iNEMI CEO Bill Bader. “We are working to mine the roadmap through a series of gap analysis meetings, several of which will be held at this year’s IPC APEX Expo™. We will identify those areas where gaps exist between current technologies and projected industry needs, and will use this information to produce the iNEMI Technical Plan and our Research Priorities document. These documents will then be used to create collaborative development and research projects.”
